Welcome to The Crosswalk Video(s)® *

August 10th 1994

Pedestrian mobility is vital in the thriving, bustling metropolis of downtown Durham, New Hampshire. Residents require quick and uninhibited traversal of Main St. for (a minimum of) frequent shopping, dining, and commerce. Back in the early '90s (and before) there used to be a crosswalk that provided a crucial pathway connecting opposite sides of Main St. between the former Kinkos Copies (now Hair Excitement) and Durham House of Pizza.

However, in 1994 this crosswalk was removed by town officials. This crosswalk video documents the one man revolution set out to restore the most popular crosswalk in Durham, NH.

The effort started out as a concept in one man's mind, that of Stephen Savage. Soon after the original crosswalk had been removed:

"Someone should paint that crosswalk."

remarked Mr. Savage. Being one of the listeners in Stephen's audience, I took his idea to heart and grew determined to return the crosswalk to the place it belonged -in the heart of downtown Durham.
