About Me

Education

University of New Hampshire (2001-...)

I earned my undergraduate degree (B.S. in Computer Science with a minor in French) from the University of New Hampshire in 2007, while working full time for the Interoperability Laboratory. If you own (or manufacture) an ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+, or VDSL2 modem, my softare has likely tested its behavior.

I can't say enough good things about the IOL; they made it possible for me to pay my own way through college and helped me grow into a better programmer.

My graduate research with AUSI started during my senior year as an undergrad in an independent study course.

Cornell University (1999-2000)

I spent 3 semesters at Cornell University (5 if you count summer sessions). I was trying really hard to be an Electrical Engineer, too stubborn to change majors even though I had gotten far better grades in classes that involved programming. I burned out, quit Cornell, and went back to my native New Hampshire — I'll probably never stop wondering what might have been if I was less headstrong back then.

While at Cornell, I got a job working in the control room of the Wilson Lab Synchrotron, where I converted schematics and manuals for the magnet control system's components into block diagrams and webpages.

Interests

Ever since a friend taught me how to MIG weld, I've been building recumbent bicycles and designing electric cars.

I currently moonlight in a blues/funk/soul band called Gnarlemagne, which helps me pretend that I'm a really great trombonist despite the lack of time to spend practicing.

When my schedule permits me to go outdoors, I take pictures for my website. It has probably not been updated in a while, so here is a compilation of my favorite posts.
